I thought this creature up a while back and only just now got to drawing and coloring it.

So I was actually in the process of drawing a Maniraptoran species when I suddenly got hit over the head with an idea for a more unique type of dragon. One with full feathering, and entirely avian in appearance. The tail is entirely feathers, like a bird, and the limbs very light and bird-like as well.

I borrowed the colores from a green jay and a belted kingfisher to make up the feather patterns. She came out gaudier than I meant her to. lol

Anyway, that's my attempt at a really different type of dragon. No stealie. You can borrow if you ask. :-p

now this is a very interesting concept combining a bird with a dragon. Neat.

I think the pieces I like best about this one are the raptorish head and the "mask" that the patterns create on her face. It would be interesting to see how this thing gets around and hunts. Would definitely be different from any bird of prey we're familiar with. :D

lol I'm glad you like the mask, but it's not my design. I shamelessly stole it from the charming geen jay [link] . I'm not sure how it would hunt, but it'd likely fly like any other aerial carnivore, by riding thermals and striking from above.

But then again, the forelimbs aren't really the big, beefy dealies that most raptors have. So maybe it'd strike with its mouth? I dunno. lol
